COP29: Reaction to new Climate Finance Text

BAKU, Thursday November 2024

In response to the revised text for the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance that was shared today, PICAN's Senior Policy and Governance Advisor, Dr Sindra Sharma said:

"This text is the starting point we needed when we first arrived in Baku. Developing nations, particularly SIDS and LDCs, have championed some of the strongest positions on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), clearly articulating the needs of the most vulnerable—something developed nations have failed to do. The draft text is incomplete because it does not provide a figure, and without a number, we can't know the level of ambition. As frustrating as this process has been, for Small Island Developing States, failure is not an option."
